But every once in awhile, we all hit a wall and need some inspiration. This is the place to rediscover your wings. A new art opening. Reviews on the latest ad campaigns and graphic design. It’s also the place to hone your skills with tutorials on design, art direction, web graphics and more. Or just hang out and soak it all in.

L7 CREATIVE FONT

franklin gothicAs Creatives, we hold our fonts near and dear to our hearts. At L7 Creative we have adopted Franklin Gothic, (and ITC Franklin Gothic), as the official font for L7 Creative everything. We consider it one of our own, as you might take in a little lost puppy off the street, (we tend to be dog people). The logotype is based on the Franklin Gothic Family font, designed by an American typeface designer, Morris Fuller Benton (1872-1948). In 1902 he was head of the creative department for the America Type Founders (ATF) and has designed a legacy of more than 200 typefaces including Hobo, Bank Gothic and Broadway. This particular font is rumored to have been named after THE Benjamin Franklin, with Gothic simply being a code name for all Sans Serif fonts. Franklin Gothic was designed more than 90 years ago and is still one of the most popular contemporary fonts.

Why Franklin Gothic? It has a clean and modern feeling, and we only let the best into our Blockhead family. Franklin Gothic is categorized as a Sans Serif font, similar to Helvetica, Universe, and Futura. Serifs are small lines at the ends of character strokes. Sans (Sans from the middle English to mean without) serif, refers to typefaces without these lines, making them ideal fonts for print and outdoor advertising. Our little pet has many features that help to differentiate Franklin Gothic from other San Serif fonts (We like to stand out). These typeface characteristics include the tail of the “Q” that curls down from the bottom center and wags a little to the right when bolded.  The letter “g” has a more traditional double story stature, along with a floppy ear that perks up on the side. This little Blockhead pup even has a nickname, “Gothic 744” named by Bitstream (A software development company that enables customers worldwide to render high-quality fonts). Like most families, the Franklin Gothic typeface comes in many shapes in sizes. The type family includes the normal, bold, italic, and bold-italic varieties.

Having one loyal font helps keep blockheads to our brand and graphic standards. These identity standards are important to distinguish our brand. It is imperative to convey a unified image so that we are able to communicate effectively with the public.
